Massachusetts: Doctors are afraid of their patients
According to the Boston Globe, a survey carried out by The Massachusetts Medical society has shown that physicians are practicing "defensive medicine" on more than 20% of their patients. The reason is that doctors are scared of being sued by the patients. It is been estimated that the extra tests, referrals and other extra procedures are adding annually $1.4billion to annual healthcare costs in Massachusetts.

Michael Bianco, Inc., Agrees to Settle Federal Lawsuit for $850,000
Greater Boston Legal Services (GBLS) announced today an agreement to settle a federal class action lawsuit against Michael Bianco, Inc., the former New Bedford factory that manufactured military gear for the U.S. Department of Defense. The company was the target of a March 2007 federal immigration raid that was broadly criticized for its inhumane treatment of the workers and their families. The settlement agreement provides for payment of hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid overtime and wages to 764 former Michael Bianco employees.
Drunk driver kills teenager
The Boston Herald reports that Robert Finnerty, 26 a employee of WEEI radio station was the designated driver after a night out at the bar/ restaurant Game On in Kenmore Square when he ran over Michael Riley, 19 around 3AM. When Police arrived to the scene, Robert was asked if he was drunk and his first response was "no!" However minutes later he broke down and alleged he had had "a couple of wine glasses."
